Spa Phoenix Is Expanding Services To Pamper Clients

Rutherford, Laine M. "Spa Phoenix Is Expanding Services To Pamper Clients." The Virginian Pilot 9 July 2003, The Beacon: 4.

Cosmetic plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew Galumbeck specializes in giving clients new, fresher looks. Now, the day spa he and his wife, child psychiatrist Cynthia Galumbeck, own has undergone a near makeover of its own.

Located next to Galumbeck Plastic Surgery at Hilltop, Spa Phoenix for three years has specialized in face and body treatments, including massage, aromatherapy, chemical peels and laser hair removal.

Since July, however, a progressive transformation has taken place. Services are being added, and extensive remodeling is changing the business into a one-stop makeover mecca.

"Our clients were asking for a full range of services," said Cynthia Galumbeck. "They were saying things like, "I don't really need a face lift yet, but I do need some help with my skin and it would be nice if I could get my hair done while I'm here."

The expansion started small. In July, Tracy Espinosa and Danielle Henry were hired as hairstylists. The pair came with a large client base from a previous salon. The Beach residents had input in decisions ranging from interior design to products sold in the spa to hiring new employees.

"Everything you can think of, they have here for us and our customers," said Espinosa, who had been a Spa Phoenix patron for about two years. "We kind of livened the place up and it's turned out great for everyone."

The popularity and demand for the stylists' services prompted the Galumbecks and spa manager Emily Duperock to make even more changes within the 4,000 square-foot spa area. Duperock said the spa will add four stylists by the end of October.

"By the time we're finished here, we'll have 18 employees, a product testing bar, facial products, lotions, scented candles," she said.

"And we're going to be doing trunk shows, jewelry shows, bridal fashions, and educational shows."

First-time visitor, but long-time Espinosa client, Yvonne Nelson was impressed by the offerings at Spa Phoenix. "I usually just call to see if Tracy can fit me in. Next time I come, I will probably plan a little better so I can get a manicure and pedicure while I'm here," said Nelson.

Cynthia Galumbeck said the change in the spa has been dramatic. "It seems like opening up the hair salon has created a whole new energy here," she said.
